FERNANDO GENTILE CELLIST
Born in Santa Fe (Argentina), He began his first cello lessons at the age of eight at the Music School Nº 9901 with Prof. Alberto Canto, six years later he made his first soloist performance with the Youth Symphony Orchestra which he has participated in numerous tours and music festivals all over the country. He has been awarded with the “Mozarteum” prize for young soloist. In 1991, he continued his cello studies with Prof. Nicholas Finoli in Buenos Aieres, in this period he became a member of the Santa Fe Symphony Orchestra and won the second prize in the “Pau Casals” cello competition in Rosario city. In 1997, he won “Antorcha” foundation scholarship to make further cello and chamber music studies in the country, which interrupts in the same year to begin the studies at the “Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg " (University of Music and Theater Hamburg, Germany) in the cello class of Prof. Wolfgang Mehlhorn. In 1999, he participated in a cello course of the Bach Akademie Stuttgart (Germany), with the cellist Boris Pergamenschikow. In the same year he got the “Diplom für Violoncello” degree at the Hamburg University of Music and continued with the postgraduate studies. He has made concert tours in Germany, Italy and Spain. In Argentina, he has performed as a soloist with the orchestras from Santa Fe and Entre Rios. In April of the 2001, he participated in a cello course with Prof. Siegfried Palm at the Federal Academy of Music in Wolfenbüttel (Hannover, Germany). He has been appointed as assistant of the cello class at the University of Music and Theater Hamburg and continued with his further studies with Prof. Wolfgang Mehlhorn in cello and Prof. Niklas Schmidt and Volker Banfield in chamber music. In November 2001, he won the “Alfred Toepfer Stiftung” (Alfred Toepfer Foundation) award and in June/July 2002, has won the first prize in the “Elise Meyer” cello competition for students of the University of Music and Theater Hamburg, sponsored by the “Elise Meyer” foundation and the second prize in the “Second Latin American Cello Competition Carlos Prieto” made in Morelia (Mexico). In October of 2003 he got the “Konzertexamen” degree at the University of Music and Theater Hamburg corresponding to the postgraduate studies. During 2003/2004 he has been appointed as second assistant at the Opera House in Oldenburg (Germany). Between September 2004-2010 he was first cellist at the Neubrandenburg Philharmonic (Germany). In April 2010 Fernando Gentile was awarded with the prize “Nicolás Finoli” in Buenos Aires. He has recorded for the SonoAr label the six cello suites by J. S. Bach. He plays on a cello by Dante Baldoni, 1924.
